Out of the box the quick reference card got me set up in under 5 minutes with no confusing questions or problems.
The camera is easy to operate, has good picture and microphone.
I connected through windows live messenger and my parents were impressed, both by the quality and by the grand kids. They are going out and buying one today. Was this review helpful?

It was easy to install and setup the Logitech QuickCam. Just follow the instruction in the booklet, you will get it up and running in a minimal of time. This is the second QC Deluxe I have purchased. The first was for my daughter and her family so we can talk and have fun with the grandchildren. This one is for my work. Both work great. The voice quality is very good and so is the video. Its easy to mount on the screen and the field of vision is outstanding. We do not use the extra graphic feature much but they are fun. Very easy set-up out-of-the-box. Was up, running, and video conferencing with my son in Chicago within 15 min. Good local video quality/performance. Granted, quality at other end varies with the infrastructure. My son has DSL while I have cable. His cam was jerky on my end and the same for mine on his end. Attributed to his DSL provider. This is my first Logitech cam. It installed with no problems on Win XP SP2, and it was recognized instantly. The image is excellent on Logitech's own video app, and it's very good (not excellent) on MSN Live and Yahoo messengers.
The still images and video it takes are good, but you can do better with a run-of-the-mill digital cameras. This is not why you buy a webcam, but it's convenient if you want to take a pic on the spot and email it.
Face tracking works, but frankly I don't need it, the image is good without it.
I haven't tested the mic yet, but it's convenient.
The only negative thing about this cam, and perhaps other Logitech cams, is that it loads 6 Processes (count them: 6!) in your computer...even when the cam is off, there are still 2-3 processes running! When a stripped-down Windows OS can run on 20-25 processes, I don't think a little cam should need 6!
All in all, a very good cam, if you get it for under $40-$50. Was this review helpful?

I bought it 2 weeks ago. Cam is fantastic. clear sharp images and able to zoom to the object automatically helps when you do web chat.
I use Vista home premium. It took 15 mins to install. One challenge I has was after the first install a week later when I tried to use the cam, it completely blanked. I had uninstall and reinstall the cam again to fix the issue. It could be due to one of the Vista's features :)!

The cam was easy to install and use. The picture quality is good.
It functioned well in low light situations. My kids loved the added features that came with the software such as masks. However this cam does not have auto focus. It is not easy to operate the manual focus dial. For the on sale price, it is a good value Was this review helpful?

Received this webcam very quickly from Buy.com and installed it the same night. Everything seemed to be going well, Rightlight technology improved the image a little, was easy to enlarge the webcam image while still maintaining good picture quality, zoom feature was great. Then I turned off the PC and next morning got the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. After rebooting to last known good configuration, Microsoft XP displayed a message that a bad driver had been installed and this was a serious error (duh!)
I opened a tech support ticket with Logitech, and next day removed all Logitech programs and drivers from my PC (previously had a Quickcam Pro 4000 which had been working ok). Then updated to latest software release and once again everything was fine. Rebooted PC and received Blue Screen of Death again. Rolled back to last known good configuration again, and now this new webcam does work, but is just either on or off (no control over Rightlight, zoom, or anything else, since that's apparently part of the software/driver combination that wouldn't work).
Three days later, no reply yet from Logitech regarding my support ticket. I bought this cam during a generous rebate promotion from Logitech, and I'm going to wait a few days to return it since I really did like the quality and features during the brief moments that it worked.
I cannot give it any rating better than "1," however, since my old webcam was actually better than this new webcam is on my PC today (without functioning software). I'll update this review if Logitech can ever get it to work. Was this review helpful? |
