Do you ever read perfume reviews? They can be fascinating whether you have a well-trained nose or not. We've noticed, though, that while positive reviews usually focus on (what else?) how good a fragrance actually smells, the negative reviews frequently get sort of . . . creedlike. It's not enough to say that the scent didn't appeal. Instead, Parfum du Jour will get panned for things like reminding people of the eighties, or encouraging people to behave immaturely, or smelling/not smelling like something else, or being sold in the wrong store. And yes, we have seen the perfume equivalent of the old restaurant joke: I hate it AND it doesn't last long enough.

We don't get it. In our book, scent is what matters - it's why the stuff exists - and, since people DO react to different fragrances differently, the only thing you can really do wrong is wear too much.
