Join the Club: Can Subscription Services Save You Money?

Posted on 09/25/2014

Razors? video games? Vegan candy? There's a club for that. The subscription economy has become hugely popular in the last decade. But can these subscription services really save you money? Or are you just paying a price for convenience?

If you're willing to skip dining out at a restaurant in exchange for preparing a meal at home with the help of HelloFresh you could save some cash. Delicious recipes and the exact ingredients are delivered to your door every week. While it will cost you more than if you had done all the work and grocery shopping yourself, it will cost you less than ordering that same meal at a restaurant. Prices start at $9.08.

Receive five luxury beauty products each month when you sign up for the $21 Glossybox. You'll get things like mascara and lip gloss delivered to your door. Usually the products inside retail for more than $100 so it's a good value if you're addicted to stores like Sephora and Ulta.

Do you spend a lot of money downloading books onto your iPad, iPhone, Android phone or tablet? Then Scribd may be the way to go. For $8.99 a month you can access unlimited books. The site says it already has 80 million monthly subscribers and since the first month is free it's a great opportunity to find out if it really is worth the fee to subscribe.

EA Access
For gamers who love EA and the Xbox One, the EA Access subscription service is probably a smart choice. For just $4.99 a month you can download and play an evolving collection of games that includes Need for Speed Rivals, Madden NFL 25 and Battlefield 4. Subscribers also get other perks like discounts on digital purchases and early access to new releases.

Fab Fit Fun
If you love spending money on beauty, wellness, fitness and fashion finds then check out the Fab Fit Fun subscription box. Delivered four times a year, the box always contains more than $200 worth of products, but you'll pay just $49.99. Plus right now when you use code FRUITWATER you'll get a free fruit infuser water bottle in your fall box.
