Book reviews make a difference. According to a study by The Nielson Company seven in ten online consumers trust recommendations from opinions posted online. Book publishers know that getting reviews are an important part of their marketing strategy. They want people to review their books so badly they're willing to give them away for free. Become an official book reviewer and score free reading material by offering up your opinions.

Start a Blog
You may already have a blog, but if you don't you'll need to start one. In order to get free books, publishers want to know that you have an online home where you'll be posting your book reviews. If you've got a social media presence, even better. Publishers aren't simply giving away free books to help you fill your book shelves. They want exposure in turn for the free product they're handing out. Don't want to start a blog? Try setting up a profile page on Hugdug.com, Seth Godin's new product review site. You'll get a custom URL and you'll have a centralized place to promote all of your book reviews.

Become an Approved Reviewer
Many publishers will gladly hand out free books to readers as long as you become an approved reviewer. At Oreilly.com that means answering a few simple questions and providing the URL of your blog. You'll also be asked to select your categories of interest. If your application is approved you'll receive an email to confirm you registration.

Checkout the Business 2 Blogger Job Board
Bloggers can score free books through the job board at business2blogger.com. Publishers and authors looking for bloggers to review their books post what they're looking for on the site. Compensation usually includes free copies of the book. Some reviewers even pay extra for the work.

Christian Book Review Programs
If you are interested in focusing on Christian book reviews check out Ambassador International, Bethany House, and booklookbloggers.com. Each publisher has slightly different requirements, but all offer free books for bloggers.

Enter Goodreads Giveaways
Millions of readers use Goodreads to find recommendations, but it's also a great place to win free books. There are thousands of giveaways happening at any particular time and entering is easy. Just click "enter to win," confirm your mailing address and approve your entry. It takes less than ten seconds and with so many books available your odds of winning free books could be pretty good.
