Water Park Discounts: Frugal Memorial Weekend Fun

Posted on 05/21/2014

It's the unofficial start of summer and what better way to kick off the season of flip flops and swimsuits than with some serious water fun? Unfortunately water parks can be like movie theaters with overpriced snack food and ever-rising ticket prices. But with these discounts you can save some money and have some frugal Memorial Day weekend fun.

Pick Two Attractions
Many water parks are located near or owned by other theme parks. And when you purchase tickets to both the theme park and the water park you can get a discount to both attractions. For instance at LEGOLAND Florida when you buy a combo ticket that includes admission to both LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND Water Park on the same day you can save up to $15.

Register for Emails
Just like when you're buying shoes online, if you sign up for a resort's email list you can save money on your ticket purchase. At Great Wolf Lodge the savings is pretty significant. You'll receive up to 20% off your stay, plus a $30 resort credit, but it's a limited-time offer. Check out greatwolf.com to register.

Stay Local
Often locals and tourists are charged two different ticket prices. While this isn't often publicized on the water parks' websites, you can find out by asking at the ticket counter. You'll likely have to show your identification to score the savings.

Use Your Membership
Now is the time to pull out your AARP, AAA or whatever membership card you have hiding in your wallet. Those memberships could equal a discount off your water park admission ticket. For instance, AAA members get up to $5 off a general single-day admission at Aquatica, Adventure Island, Myrtle Waves and more.

Buy Offsite
Instead of showing up at the water park and paying full price, plan ahead. The next time you're at Costco stocking up on toothpaste and frozen chicken check out the deals on water park tickets. Many are also available to members at costco.com.

Go Late
Some water parks offer deep discounts to those who show up later in the day. For example at Big Surf Water Park in Tempe, Arizona, twilight tickets purchased after 3pm are only $15.95. That's $12 cheaper than the typical admission price. And let's face it-- avoiding the peak part of the day means you're less likely to get a sunburn and you probably won't spend as much time waiting in long lines.
