How crazy are you willing to get in order to save money? Would you eat food out of a trash bin? Commit to giving up your daily latte? Check out these crazy things people are willing to do in order to save a buck.
Going Dumpster Diving
Here's a store that has a lid instead of a door-- the dumpster. You can find everything from produce to personal hygiene products completely free of charge just like Florida resident Kris Kemp. He's blogged about his finds at dumpsterliberationfront.com.
Making No Clothing Purchases
Back in January blogger and photographer Katie Taylor committed to buying no clothing for an entire year. She says it was part of her plan to "reorient her time, energy and money towards more giving." While not shopping for a full 12 months may seem a little extreme to some fashionistas, it would be a great way to save a lot of dough.
Taking a No-Spend Challenge
Some people are taking the no-spend challenge, going weeks and even months without buying anything that isn't a necessity. Take Stephany for instance. She's a young professional who committed to going three months without spending any extra cash. At TheHappyHousewife.com, February was a no-spend month which meant buying only essentials and cutting out restaurants, coffee, entertainment and more.
Committing to Exercise
Commit to working out and earn money with GymPact. Set a goal and when you stick with it, verifying your workout through a free Smartphone app, you'll earn money from those who broke their fitness pacts.
Eating Nothing but Rice and Beans
Lots of families are eating just about the cheapest meal there is in an effort to save money: rice and beans. Could you do it for a week? A month? A whole year? Blogger Beverly and her family ate nothing but rice and beans six days a week for a month. It costs as little as $1.50 a day to eat these cheap staples, which is probably a lot less than most food budgets.
