Fashion is fun, but sometimes it’s more than that. Certain brands answer to a higher calling than simply making shoppers look fabulous and consumers seem willing to pay extra for it. According to Nielsen’s Global Corporate Citizenship Survey, 46 percent of consumers are willing to pay more for products and services from companies that give back to society. Here are five fashion brands with a greater mission than simply helping you look good.
Out of Print
Out of Print makes t-shirts, accessories and gifts using classic and out of print book covers. For each product sold, one book is donated to a community in need through the company's partner Books For Africa.
Founded by 25-year-old Bill Mitchell, Billiam Jeans makes custom jeans and leather accessories. Twenty percent of sales are earmarked for Wellspring Living, an Atlanta-based non-profit serving girls and women who have been the victim of sexual abuse and exploitation. The goal is to give Wellspring Living $100,000 and then expand to help other organizations with similar missions across the country.
You may have seen Feed featured in Target commercials lately. The lifestyle brand creates good products that actually feed people around the world. A donation is built into the cost of every bag, t-shirt or blanket. So the more you spend the more people you feed.
It's not clothing, but your eyeglasses definitely make a style statement. If you're in need of new spectacles consider shopping at Warby Parker where a pair of glasses is given to someone in need every time a pair is purchased. So far they've distributed a half million glasses in 36 countries.
Through the sales of stylish clothing Jedidiah Clothing is able to give back to humanitarian causes. This year all sales support Not For Sale's efforts to fight modern-day slavery around the world.
