Someone once said if you love what you'll do you'll never work a day in your life. It's true, money isn't everything. Some low-paying jobs aren't worth the stress, but others are extremely gratifying-- even if the pay stinks. These careers don't offer great paychecks, however other perks may be enough to make you broke, but happy.


Childcare Worker
If you love children then why not spend your day with pint-sized companions? Childcare workers don't make much money-- usually less than $20,000 a year. But you can't put a price tag on being a positive influence in little lives. Plus, for those who have young children the job could come with perks like free childcare.

Food Prep Workers
According to NBC News jobs in the food prep category have the distinction of being the lowest-wage gig in the country. On average these workers only earn about $8.71 an hour which works out to $18,000 a year. But if you're looking for something with unique hours and free food this could be a good industry for you.

Elementary School Teacher
Depending on the school district elementary school teachers often aren't paid well. According to Yahoo the bottom ten percent of elementary teachers earn about $35,000 a year. But many find satisfaction knowing they are educating the future of America. Plus they get summers off so that's a nice benefit.

Flight Attendants
Forbes says the bottom ten percent of flight attendants earn just $24,990 a year. That may not seem like much, but flight attendants enjoy advantages like free flights anywhere in the world, benefits that often carry over to family members like spouses and children. So while you may not earn much you'll get to take some killer vacations.

Firefighters
If money isn't everything, check out a career as a firefighter. It's the closest job to being a real life super hero. Ten-year-old you will think adult you is so cool.

Newspaper Reporter
Covering the news of the day, investigating politicians or following the crime beat won't put you behind the wheel of a Bentley. However, the job comes with plenty of perks like meeting interesting people on a daily basis, scoring front row access to lots of events and seeing your byline in print.
