Breastfeeding has plenty of perks. Not only does it provide newborns with nutrients, it also reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer later in life for women according to the World Health Organization. Children who are breastfed are less likely to be overweight or to have type-2 diabetes and they also tend to perform better in intelligence tests. It's no wonder that breast milk is a hot commodity. In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, which runs from August 1-7, 2013, here are some tips for selling breast milk for cash.

Pumping Up Income
Plenty of bodily fluids can be sold for quick cash, including breast milk. Some moms report making more than a thousand dollars a month by donating their liquid gold.

Posting a Classified
The most popular community for moms looking to buy, sell and donate natural breast milk is OnlytheBreast.com. Create a free account and list your ad explaining what you have available.

Tips for Getting Sales
OnlytheBreast.com suggests being personal in your ad. Sharing a few details about your own baby's health will make potential buyers more comfortable. Consider upgrading to a featured ad in order to get listed at the top of any category. The fee is $5 for a 15 day listing.

Prolacta Reimbursement Program
Moms who sign up for the Breast Pump Reimbursement Program at milkinmamas.com can receive a $300 breast pump reimbursement from Prolacta. The program goes through September 30, 2013. The company also covers costs associated with testing, breast milk storage bags and shipping. Donors must ship a minimum of 300 qualified ounces within a set timeframe and you do not need to submit receipts in order to receive your $300.

Risks to Buyers
While breast milk is known to boost babies' immune systems and even IQ, buying it from strangers does come with risks. In fact the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not support buying breast milk, except from approved milk banks. That's because no testing is done to determine if the donor is drug-free and healthy.
