Finding the Most Affordable Airline Tickets for 2013 Summer Travel

Posted on 06/24/2013

Hoping to take to the skies this summer? Airline travel is almost always pricey, no matter where your destination. But these tips will help you find the most affordable airlines tickets for your 2013 summer travel.

Travel on the 4th
Like most holidays throughout the year, if you can fly on the actual holiday you'll pay less for your ticket. That's because most travelers prefer to fly before or after the holiday. Book your flights on July 4th or Labor Day and you won't pay as much.

Book a One Way Flight
We're not suggesting that you fly to the beach and never return, but sometimes a one-way ticket can offer special savings. Search for the best deals at

Fly on a Wednesday
Flights on Wednesdays are usually cheaper than the other six days of the week. Try working your vacation dates around this travel fact and you could save hundreds of dollars.

Visit Off-Peak Destinations
While summer is typically the busiest travel season for most destinations there are some exceptions. Visit these locations and you'll enjoy fewer crowds and bigger discounts. USA Today suggests destinations like Salt Lake City and Baja, California where prices are slashed during the summer compared to other, busier times of year.

Vacation in August
According to a Priceline survey, the most affordable domestic flights will be found for August travel. Expect to pay an average of $377, which is only slightly more than travelers paid during August of 2012. Priceline also suggests packing lightly as airlines are increasingly sticking passengers with baggage fees.
