Not only is preparing a Thanksgiving meal a whole lot of work, but it can be expensive dinner. In fact, a new survey found that one in ten have said no to hosting the annual turkey dinner because of the cost, which for half of Americans tallies to somewhere between $101-$300. There's no doubt, food costs have increased this year. But according to the experts, it can still be an economical feast.

Turkey According to the American Farm Bureau Federation's 27th annual informal price survey of Thanksgiving Day classics, the turkey is the most expensive item on the table. A 16-pound turkey will cost $22.23 this year, or $1.39 a pound. That's a four-cent increase from last year.

Stuffing and Potatoes
You'll actually pay less for side dishes like stuffing and potatoes. The AFBF estimates that a 14-ounce package of cubed bread stuffing will set you back an average of $2.77, which is 11-cents cheaper than 2011. Three pounds of potatoes will cost about $3.15 which is a savings of 11-cents as well.

Rolls
You'll have to fork over a little more dough for your bread this year. The AFBF says a dozen brown-n-serve rolls are now $2.33, which is three cents higher than last year.

Dessert
Every Thanksgiving meal needs to wrap up with pumpkin pie, which will also cost you slightly less this year. A 30-ounce can of pumpkin pie mix and two nine-inch pie shells will ring up at $5.53. That's two pennies cheaper compared to last year.

Extra Ingredients
Ingredients that you need to prepare your massive meal like onions, eggs, sugar, flour, evaporated milk and butter have all increased in price according to the AFBF. Those are estimated to cost $3.18. That brings the total average cost of a feast for ten to $49.48, 28-cents higher than last year's average. But given the fact that you can prepare a Thanksgiving meal for ten people for less than $50, you're still getting a lot of cluck for your buck.
