While big box retailers have Black Friday, Saturday is all about small business. According to American Express, last year more than 100 million people supported small businesses in their communities on Small Business Saturday. Get in on the action with these tips for promoting your business on Small Business Saturday.

Free Online Advertising
Sign up for free ads through November 19 at AmericanExpress.com. Plug in the details of your business including your name and location. Then American Express will create a free online ad for you. Keep in mind that when you provide your email address you're agreeing to receive information about the Shop Small program.


Contact Local Media
Your local media outlets will definitely be covering Black Friday so they may also be interested in running a story on Small Business Saturday. Let them know about any special plans you have and that you are willing to be interviewed. Piggyback on this national event as a way to get local attention for your small business.


Free Marketing Materials
American Express is also offering free marketing materials for small businesses to help them promote the event. Find online banners and logos, printable signs as well as social media and email templates at AmericanExpress.com.


Use Foursquare
Millions of people use foursquare every day to let their connections know where they are and what they're doing. All of the tools on foursquare are free for merchants including offering specials for customers who "check in" to your business using the social media site. To get started, claim your business and in three simple steps you'll be ready to use this free social media tool.


Free Promotion
The National Federation of Independent Businesses is offering to promote small business for free to their 150,000 Facebook fans and 30,000 Twitter followers. You don't have to be a member of the NFIB to participate. Simply tell them why shoppers should visit you on November 24 and they'll promote it for you for free.
