Congestion, coughing, sneezing—it’s just a part of fall that millions of Americans deal with every year. According to WebMD, one in five Americans have either allergy or asthma symptoms. The annual cost of allergies to the health care system and businesses in the US is a whopping $7.9 billion. But if you want to save money—and hopefully some sick days—try these low cost natural remedies for beating fall allergies.
Try a Neti Pot
They’ve been around for a long time and according to The Himalayan Institute a Neti Pot can alleviate allergy problems by flushing out nasal passages. Score a free Neilmed Nasaflo Neti Pot by heading to their Facebook page. This offer is only good for new fans.
Drink More Water
Health experts are always advising people to drink more water and it’s no different when battling allergies. The water will help cleanse your body and could even reduce your allergy symptoms.
Use Your AC
Although the weather may be cooling down don’t crack open the windows just yet. You may want to keep the air conditioner running to limit your exposure to allergens floating in the air. This goes for your commute too. Keep your car windows rolled up and you may feel better.
Drink Green Tea
If you aren’t worn out from drinking 8 to 10 cups of water today, add in a cup of green tea. The beverage is packed with an antioxidant known to block naturally-produced chemicals that are linked to pesky allergy symptoms.
Eat Your Antihistamines
Instead of popping pills for your symptoms, try getting antihistamines naturally through your diet. Gaiam Life suggests boosting Vitamin C content through things like red bell peppers, broccoli, mango, strawberries and cranberry juice. Take in more flavonoids by eating citrus fruits, onions, garlic and tomatoes. Consuming more Omega-3s from foods including salmon, walnuts and grass-fed meat can help reduce your allergy symptoms this fall.
