Want to shed some pounds before flaunting that swimsuit? A juice fast can be a great way to get ready for the beach, but it can also be expensive. It takes a lot of produce to fill one glass with pure juice, but there are ways to save money on a juice fast.
Don’t Buy a Juicer Yes, one of the key ingredients to doing a successful juice fast is using a juicer. But these can cost hundreds of dollars so instead of investing in a juicer that you may only use for ten days a year, try to find one you can borrow. Ask family and friends, put out a request on Facebook or try finding one in your community that you can rent through a service like Zaarly.
Stretch Your Juice
Bulk up your juice drinks by adding mineral water or pure fruit juice to the mix. Liquids like these will add content and nutrients without adding much to the cost.
Use Low Cost Fruits and Veggies
Get to know the budget-friendly items in the produce department. Fruits like bananas, watermelon, cantaloupes and honeydew offer a lot of fruit for the money. Use more expensive and much smaller fruits, like cherries, blueberries and raspberries more sparingly since they will drive up the cost of your juice.
Buy Organic When Necessary
It’s no secret organic fruits and veggies cost more than the regular ones. But you don’t need to buy only organic. Use the Environmental Working Group’s list of produce with the most pesticides. Try to purchase organic versions of the items that fall on the “dirty dozen” list.
Shop in Bulk
Instead of relying on your grocery store’s produce department, try out the farmer’s market or a bulk store like Costco. You’ll be able to get larger amounts of the fresh produce you need at a much better price.
Get Free Inspiration
More than two million people around the world have tried juicing after watching the popular documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. The film chronicles an Australian man’s journey across the US as he loses more than 80 pounds thanks to a juice fast. You can watch the film for free at jointhereboot.com. Get inspired and soon you’ll be shedding those extra pounds.
