For kids, summer can be a magical time full of swimming pools and popsicles. But for parents, often when school ends panic can begin. Will they forget everything they learned? Will they do anything productive? Will they have anything to tell their classmates come September? A great solution to all of these questions is day camp, an affordable summer option that keeps kids active, involved and entertained.
YMCA More than 45 million people around the world belong to a YMCA. They’re a great destination for swimming lessons, workout classes and community events. Many YMCA locations in the US offer summer day camps for kids. For example, in Arizona, day camps last all summer long and each week offers a different theme including Safari and Xtreme Sports. Kids can join for a certain theme week or take part in all 12 weeks of fun under the watchful eyes of trained staff members.
Leave it to your local library to offer yet another great free resource: summer day camps. At the Cuyahoga County Public Library in Ohio, kids can choose from a long list of day camps ranging from robot building to creative writing. And they’re all free.
Vacation Bible School
Every June and July churches across your community hold Vacation Bible School. Typically these day camps are free and open to any children, not just those who attend the church. Your kids will learn Bible stories, sing songs and play educational games. Do an online search for VBS opportunities in your area.
