How to Enjoy Spring Break at Home

Posted on 03/13/2012

Jumping gas prices may prompt some spring break travelers to plan a staycation rather than an adventurous getaway. But spring break can be fun whether you’re in an exotic location or exploring your own community. Here are the top ways to enjoy spring break at home.

Take a Hometown Tour In Houston, city officials are bracing for an estimated 350,000 staycationers at the city’s most popular tourist destinations thanks to high gas prices. They’re expecting the hot spots to be the city’s museum district, zoo, livestock show and rodeo. Take a cue from Houston residents and find out the most popular places for tourists who come to your community.

Indulge in Your Favorite Treat
For most people food is a big part of travel. Vacation usually means throwing caution—and calories—to the wind. Even though you’re staying home loosen the reins of your diet and indulge in your favorite treat.

Take a Visual Retreat
Pinterest is good for many things, including taking a visual retreat. Search for spring break images that will whisk you away to a sunny day in Paris or a hammock on the beach.

Throw a Party
Chances are plenty of your friends are sticking close to home this spring break, too. Invite them over for the first BBQ of the season, a pool party or a spring break movie marathon. There’s no reason why you can’t make spring break memories in the comfort of your own home.

Whip Up a Tropical Meal
Bring the taste of the Caribbean to your kitchen with a tropical menu. Lobster Quesadilla with Tropical Fruit Salsa, Mojito-Marinated Chicken Breasts, and Key Lime Pie for dessert will have your taste buds feeling like they’re in a far away land.
