Spring and cleaning go together like Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Instead of trashing that uncovered clutter, head to one of the web’s most popular destinations for buying and selling everything from cars to kids clothing. According to Alexa traffic rankings, Craigslist is the 10th most popular website in the entire United States. If you want to use it to line your pockets with extra cash here are tips for making more money with the help of Craigslist.

Pack Keywords into Your Headline Think like a shopper and pack keywords into your Craigslist headline. This will help ensure your ad gets in front of interested eyes. Double check your spelling and include descriptive words.

Clean Up Your Item
Whether you’re selling a bike or a chair it’s a good idea to wipe off the dust and clean up your product. It doesn’t have to be perfect—after all most people are willingly shopping for used products. But dusting off your stuff could get you more money.

Post Several Photos
Unlike other websites, Craigslist doesn’t charge for posting photos with your listing. Photos will help sell your product faster—especially if they are well done. You also won’t waste time responding to questions from people who aren’t sure if what you’re selling is what they’re looking for.

Make Prices Competitive
In the case of most of the clutter you’re clearing out, it may be better to sell it for less just so you can have the junk out of your home and some cash in your pocket. But remember that with Craigslist it’s possible to repost items, change prices and rework listings without being penalized. If you post an item and it doesn’t generate much interest within a week, lower the price by 10-20% and try again. You can always go down in price, but asking for more money is pretty much impossible.

List Surprising Items
You might be surprised at what other people will buy off of you on Craigslist. From buckets of scrap marble left behind from a tile project to old windows found in the attic, I’ve made money selling things on Craigslist that I almost tossed to the curb. Go ahead, give it a shot. You may end up turning that trash into cash.
