According to reports, the number of people owning tablets and eBook readers nearly doubled in the weeks from mid-December to early January 2012. According to Pew Internet Project, ownership of these devices jumped from 10 percent to 19 percent. If you are one of the millions who unwrapped an eBook device for Christmas or you already own one, these free eBooks will build up your digital library.


Amazon Kindle Free Books Amazon provides easy access to free classics and out-of-copyright books that were released before 1923. Download great free reads for your Kindle like Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” or Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.”


Barnes and Noble Free Nook Books
For Nook owners, the best place to start may be BarnesandNoble.com. They offer dozens of free books for your Nook. The titles are categorized by subject. Search through genres including biographies, mysteries or romance novels.


Project Gutenberg
Currently Project Gutenberg offers more than 38,000 free eBooks for a variety of devices, and all are free. They’re digitized by volunteers so that everyone has access to literature like “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “A Tale of Two Cities.”


ManyBooks.net
Browse through 29,000 eBooks for your Kindle, Nook, iPad or eReader device at ManyBooks.net. They’re all free, but if you find choosing a title to be overwhelming check out the list of most popular titles or recent reviews left by other readers.

Many times authors will promote their latest titles by offering up the eBook version for free for a limited time. Check out NewFreeBooks.com for an extensive list of these types of eBook freebies. The links will take you directly to the author or publisher’s website so you can download the material.

If you’re looking for Christian eBooks, Plough.com is a good place to visit. They offer dozens of free eBooks. Most are in three different formats, depending on what device you own.
