Year after year December 31 usually includes the countdown, a midnight kiss and a champagne toast. But if you’re looking for an alternative that doesn’t involve Dick Clark or Ryan Seacrest we’ve got some great New Year’s Eve celebration alternatives.

Video Games at Dave and Buster’s Dave and Buster’s locations around the country are holding New Year’s Eve events for adults and families. For instance, in Chicago a $49.99 ticket gives you access to an appetizer buffet with dessert, unlimited soft drinks, $15 Power Cards, a DJ and more. The family-friendly party runs from 5-8pm and a $29.99 ticket includes food, a magic show, video ball drop and more.

Start Your Resolutions Early

If you’re resolving to be healthier in 2012 why not start before the stroke of midnight? Create a night of pampering with at-home spa treatments, a healthy dinner and a fresh fruit smoothie. And if you decide to top it off with some red wine and dark chocolate in the name of good health, that’s OK too.

Live Entertainment at Medieval Times

Adults can get a night full of food and entertainment at Medieval Times for $69.95 or $35.95 for kids 12 and under. The ticket includes a two-hour live tournament, a four-course Medieval feast and a midnight balloon drop.

First Night Celebration
In 1976 a small group of Boston-based artists created a New Year’s Eve alternative called First Night. The idea spread and now there are about 75 First Night celebrations happening all over the country. Find events in your area by visiting

Host a Resolution Dinner Party
Grab some of your closest friends and hold an intimate gathering over food. Encourage guests to take advantage of the fact that a new year ushers in a fresh start and have them discuss their goals for 2012. You may even want to encourage them to write down their resolutions and put them in a sealed envelope that you will mail to them in one year. And if your resolution happens to be to throw more dinner parties you’ll be off to a good start!
