A recent survey found that nearly two-thirds of consumers hadn’t finished their holiday shopping. Some don’t have the money, some lack the time and some shoppers simply love the thrill of racing against the clock. Unless you are one of those people who enjoys the rush of last minute shopping, you probably aren’t thrilled with the idea of hitting the mall. Here are some tips for surviving a last minute shopping trip to the mall.

Research Before You Go - If you know what you’re looking for before you head to the mall, make sure you know which store you’ll need to hit up. You’ll save time by pinpointing where to buy the gift and when you use comparison shopping websites like Nextag.com and Bizrate.com you’ll save money by purchasing it at the retailer offering the best price.

Find Out if it’s In Stock - If you know what you need and what store it’s in, find out if the item is in stock before you invest the time in paying the mall a visit. Stores like JCPenney have a “know before you go” feature that allows you to search for products by zip code.

Park in the Back - Rather than waste more precious time circling the parking lot for a nearby spot, just take the empty one in the back. Fresh air is good for reducing stress. Plus it will give you a few minutes to formulate your plan of attack on the way in and decompress on the way out.

Wear Comfortable Shoes - Aching feet will only make a last minute shopping trip to the mall more miserable. Do yourself a favor and pull on comfy footwear. The faster you can walk, the faster you can buy your presents and get the heck out of there.

Fall Back on Gift Cards - Give yourself a set amount of time to find exactly what you’re looking for and if that doesn’t work do yourself a favor—buy a gift card and let your loved one do the shopping.
