Black Friday can be more about the experience than the deals. According to a recent poll, more than half of shoppers head out to stores on Black Friday so they can spend time with family and friends. Forty-three percent say it’s a tradition. Want to make this your best Black Friday ever? Then you better have a strategy. Here are some tips for creating a Black Friday plan.

Review the Ads - According to a survey by Persuadable Research Corporation, more than two out of three people plan their Black Friday trip ahead of time. One way to do that is by reviewing store circulars. Lots of stores reveal their Black Friday ads well before the big day. You can find them online at sites like BFAds.net. Take time to review the ads of the stores you’re most interested in. Compare the prices of the items you have your eye on.

Know When Stores Open - Doors open at different times on Black Friday. According to reports, Kohl’s opens at 3am, JCPenney unlocks the doors at 4am and Best Buy will let crowds tumble in at 5am. Knowing when stores open up will help you plan out the time you want to arrive. Consider trying to get to the stores at least an hour before opening so you have the best chance of getting exactly what you want.

Make a List - Black Friday is not the time for casual shopping. It’s best to have a list in hand of the things you’d like to buy. Make as many decisions as possible before you dive into the crowds. It will make the experience more enjoyable.

Visualize Store Layouts - If there is a particular bargain you have your heart set on, take some time to visualize where it will be located in the store. If you can, ask an employee where the item is stocked before the doors open on Black Friday. That way you can plan your route which will help you get to it before everyone else does.

Plan Breaks - The competition and excitement of Black Friday can be a rush, but it can also be tiring. Make sure you schedule breaks into your Black Friday shopping plan. Think about stopping for an early lunch to beat the crowds. That way maybe you won’t have to wait in yet another line on Black Friday.
