Ten Ways to Sell Stuff Online for Extra Holiday Cash

Posted on 10/19/2010

Cleaning junk out of the attic can be a great way to pay for putting new stuff under the Christmas tree. The holidays may still be several weeks away, but now is a great time to start thinking about turning clutter into gift buying cash. We’ve all heard of eBay and Craigslist, but there are plenty of other ways to sell stuff online in order to earn extra holiday cash.

Smashion - Have clothing or accessories to sell? Check out Smashion.com. It’s like eBay for fashionistas. Selling (and buying) is free.

SnapGoods - Having a hard time letting go? Try SnapGoods. The site lets you rent your stuff rather than sell it. You’ll put a price on what you own, and lend it out to interested renters in your area. Bikes, strollers, video games—whatever you’ve got you can rent it out with SnapGoods.

Sell.com - Think of Sell.com as a modern version to your newspaper’s classifieds section. Your ad can run up to 30 days and sales are private. Final sale prices are not made public so the negotiations are in your hands.

Facebook Marketplace - Chances are you’re on Facebook to find out about your friends and family members. Thanks to Facebook Marketplace you can also use the social media site to sell stuff. It’s free and you’re only selling to your network of contacts.

BuyMyStuff.com - This is another online local classified site and works as an alternative to Craigslist. The nice thing about BuyMyStuff.com is that you’ll never have to re-post your ad. Just input the details once and it will stay on the site until your item sells.

Gazelle.com - Got an old iPod, cell phone or laptop gathering dust? Head to Gazelle.com for an easy way to turn last year’s gadget into money for this year’s holiday gift budget.

BuyMyTronics.com - Another place to sell old gadgets (even if they are broken) is BuyMyTronics.com. Shipping is free, and the site promises quick payment for your unwanted gizmos.

GoldKit.com - Got gold? With GoldKit.com you can easily sell unwanted gold jewelry or coins. Just follow three steps: request a free GoldKit, mail in your scrap gold and they’ll cut you a check within a day.

Yardsellr - Yardsellr taps into the power of social media to help get your stuff sold. Listing is free, but buyers will pay a small fee once a sale is complete.

BagBarroworSteal.com - If you’ve got a designer bag you no longer use you can fill out an item submission form and get a bid from BagBarroworSteal.com. If you accept the bid, just ship them the item and you’ll get your cash within three to five business days.
