Affordable Labor Day Destinations

Summer’s on its way out. But before the rush of the holidays rolls in why not use your upcoming three-day weekend for a much-needed getaway? Here are some affordable Labor Day destinations.


Las Vegas, Nevada - According to travel site Orbitz.com, Las Vegas holds the top spot on the list of the most popular Labor Day destinations. But with hotel rates averaging $106 a night, it can be a very affordable place to spend your long weekend. Plus there is no shortage of free site-seeing or you could always play the nickel slots.


Washington DC - Finding a cheap hotel room in DC might be difficult, but once you’re there you won’t spend much on entertainment. Each year the National Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert on the West Lawn of the US Capitol Building. There’s also a free Blues Festival, parade and more.


Austin, Texas - Say goodbye to summer at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin. They’re running three-for-two specials on rooms and hosting a big barbecue bash on Labor Day. The poolside cookout features live entertainment and yummy food that includes Texas burgers, BBQ brisket sandwiches and grilled fish.


Detroit, Michigan - If you’re within driving distance of Detroit, you may want to head here for your weekend getaway. The 31st annual Detroit Jazz Fest runs all weekend long. It’s three days of free entertainment performed throughout several blocks of the city’s downtown.


Orlando, Florida - According to the travel pros, Orlando can be one of the best places to find cheap hotel rooms. With an average nightly rate of $79, Orlando would be a very affordable place to head for Labor Day weekend. Right now you can save $50 off your vacation when you book three or more nights at a participating hotel.


Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - If you’re looking to fill your Labor Day weekend with one final quintessential summer experience, head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Play mini golf, hit the water parks and soak in some sun. You can also enjoy the 5th annual Beach, Boogie and BBQ Festival, which features car shows, food vendors and live entertainment. Area hotels run special packages for people interested in attending this fun end-of-summer bash.
