Looking to make a major change to your finances? Sometimes drastic changes require drastic measures. Whether your goal is to get out of debt or boost your income, hard work and shaking up your habits will get the job done. Here are five ways to significantly cut your living expenses.
Get a Roomie - Going back to the day of sharing closet space and a bathroom may not sound very appealing. Sure, roommates may drink your milk and take really long showers, but the rent check will make up for the negatives. You’ll slash your mortgage or rent payment and who knows, you may enjoy the company.
Cancel Cable - Most cable bills are about $100 a month or more. That’s more than a thousand dollars a year going towards episodes of Madmen and Real Housewives of New Jersey. Don’t worry, without cable you should still be able to catch Glee and The Bachelorette. But you’ll save loads of cash.
Get a Part-Time Job - You probably like your free time, but if you want to change your financial situation drastically, be willing to give some of it up. A part-time job doesn’t necessarily have to be flipping burgers. Ask friends, inquire at your favorite hang outs or check out local listings on Craigslist.
Sell Your Car - Your car could be a major financial drain. Sell it and watch your savings kick into high gear. Opt for something cheaper that you can pay cash for. Or better yet, get to know your public transportation system. No gas, no maintenance and lots of savings.
Turn Off Your A/C - It’s pretty much the hottest time of year no matter where you live. But if you’re not afraid to sweat, turning off your air conditioning can be the key to saving tons of money. Switch to fans or open up the windows and you’ll slash your energy bills. Who knows, you may even sweat off some pounds while saving big bucks.
