Discount warehouses feature towering shelves stocked full of everything from lima beans to laundry detergent. You can pick up 52 rolls of toilet paper and 20 tubes of toothpaste in the same aisle. But are you really saving money? Here are some times when buying in bulk makes sense.

You’ve got the Room - Those living in tiny studio apartments may not have the space for stocking up on a year’s supply of anything. But if you’ve got the room, buying in bulk can be a great idea. Not only will you save gas by not having to run to the store for paper towels, but you’ll save money by purchasing huge amounts of a single product at once.

It Won’t Spoil - Unless you’ve got the family to eat it, steer clear of buying perishables in bulk. Chances are you’ll get sick of those 200 chicken wings or 10 pounds of grapes long before the bag is empty. You’re more likely to end up throwing the food away, and lots of money with it. It makes more sense to spend money on bulk items that are less apt to spoil like bottled water, grape jelly and soap.

You’re Throwing a Party - Parties are great reasons to hit up the discount warehouse, since your guests will go through enough food to warrant buying in bulk. You’ll save money and have a blast at the same time.

It Disappears Fast - Every family has their favorites. Maybe yours goes through peanut butter like it’s water. Try picking up these popular items in bulk. Not only will you save money but you’ll have plenty to go around.

You Need Staples - There are some pantry staples that you probably use regularly: flour, sugar, and cereal, to name a few. It may be a good idea to pick up these items in bulk. You’ll cut costs on the things you use regularly and end up with a whole lot more for less money.
