Shopping the clearance section can seem like a game of Bingo—sometimes you don’t walk away with anything good and other times you win big. But believe it or not there is some skill and strategy involved in getting the best mark downs. Use these tips for finding stuff you want and need on clearance.

Know Where to Look - Clearance sections vary depending on the store. Often it’s in a remote corner, or at the end of an aisle. Since it’s not typically an in-demand product stores don’t waste high traffic areas on clearance items. Search your favorite stores for clearance sections so you’ll know where to look each time you visit.

Learn the Markdown Schedule - Each store has a system for making markdowns. Ask store employees where you shop to find out their schedule. For instance, expert shoppers say Monday is the day to head to Target if you’re looking for new clearance items in electronics, kids clothing and stationary. If you want to have a better selection of clearance food items, head there on Tuesday and beauty items are typically red-tagged on Wednesdays.

Use Coupons or Discounts - Most stores still let you use coupons on items that have been marked down. Combining a coupon with a clearance item can lead to incredible deals on food and household items. Shopping for clearance items online? Head to your favorite sites through Ebates, a shopping portal that will give you cash back when you make a purchase.

Shop Weekdays - Not only are stores less crowded during the week, but shelves are more organized. There’s a better chance clearance items will be newly stocked and where they are supposed to be during the week.

Visit After Holidays - Any item with holiday packaging will be marked down significantly once the holiday is over. This could include soap, detergent or stationary. The product is still perfectly fine, but since the package is now considered outdated you’ll score a better deal.

Scan for Accurate Prices - Sometimes marked down items may be even cheaper than what the price sticker says. Other items may have missed a markdown altogether. Use scanners located throughout some stores to see what the accurate price really is.

Shop Online for Selection - Find a top you like on clearance at a store, but strike out on finding your size? Check the store’s website. For instance, OldNavy.com will have much of the same items on clearance, but they may have a better selection of sizes than you’ll find in the store.

all winter tighns will go on sale after the winter season. the store will be ordering all new spring/summer clothes and they'll want to get rid of everything, and the best way to do that is by having a sale! There is no guarantee of there being a huge clearance sale, but if there was it would be the beginning of spring.
