Winter is winding down, but summer vacation still seems so far away. Spring break is the perfect solution for kicking back, relaxing and enjoying some time off. But before you start stressing about whether you should head to Puerto Rico or Puerto Vallarta, make sure you can do spring break without going broke. Here are some tips for staying on a budget - but don't forget to check out the great deals at the UltimateCoupons' Spring Break Coupons page!

Drive It - Save money by picking a destination that is within driving distance. There are plenty of great US destinations that will give you opportunities for rest and relaxation without having to pull out your passport.

Car Pool - Since you’re staying stateside, gather a group of friends or family members and car pool. Not only will you save big on gas money, but you’ll be tempted to buy less since trunk room is limited. Plus, the more the merrier—especially during spring break.

Split and Share - Since you’re sharing a ride you may as well share accommodations. Hotel costs can eat up your budget in a big way. Split the cost of a room with a friend (or two or three) and your money will go much further.

Give Back - Instead of heading to an exotic locale for a week of bumming on the beach, do something worthwhile. Volunteering during your spring break will give you a great opportunity to learn life lessons that you may never cover in a classroom. Check out sites like Omprakash.org, UnitedPlanet.org, or VolunteerMatch.org. There are opportunities in the US and overseas, depending on the experience you’re looking for.

Shorten Your Trip - Money goes fast on vacation. Try shortening your trip from a full week to three or four days. You’ll still be able to pack in a lot of fun even though you’re spending about half as much money.

Search for Discounts - If you’re a student, seek out student-only discounts. Lots of hotels, travel companies and entertainment venues offer a lower price for those in school. You may also want to consider getting a membership to AAA. It comes with lots of perks like roadside assistance, free maps and discounts to attractions. That way spring break won’t become the spring you went broke.
