Make Your Own King Cake - Order a traditional New Orleans King Cake from a bakery and you could easily pay $20 or more. Instead, use this recipe to turn a yellow cake mix into this Mardi Gras favorite for your party guests.

Decorate with Fleur-de-lis - The Fleur-de-lis is the official state symbol of Louisiana. It’s a three-petal flower design that often represents areas settled by France or locations with a strong French heritage. Download a Clip Art file of this often-used symbol and decorate cups, placemats or coasters with it. Free-hand a large Fleur-de-lis and hang it on the front door to welcome guests.

DIY Mardi Gras Masks - You don’t have to buy elaborate Mardi Gras masks for guests—just make your own. You’ll be amazed at what you can create with a Styrofoam plate, a glue gun, some glitter and these instructions from abigslice.com.
