What’s more romantic than cozy fires at night and fresh powder during the day? Since February 14 falls on a Sunday this year, treat your Valentine to a romantic winter weekend getaway. Not only will your sweetie love that you planned a special vacation, but they’ll appreciate that you were able to cut costs on this winter ski trip using these deals and tips.

Romantic Lodging for Less - Find a place near the slopes for a steal. Check out the Valentine’s lodging and package deals available at Expedia.com. Save 30% at ski destinations like Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Boulder, Colorado.

Buy Lift Tickets Ahead of Time - If you buy your lift ticket at the ski resort, chances are you’ll have to pay full price. Do your research ahead of time and you may be able to save quite a bit of money. Check out sites like Liftopia.com and SkiCoupons.com to find discounted lift tickets and ski deals. Also peruse eBay for lift ticket coupons and deals. If you plan ahead you may be able to score a 2-for-1 deal.

Rent Equipment Off-Site - Rent your skis or snowboard at your resort and you’ll pay a premium. You may be able to spend less if you reserve them online ahead of time, but you’ll save even more if you go off-site. Head to a ski rental shop nearby and rent your equipment for your entire stay. Or check out a service like RentSkis.com, where the savings can be as much as 50% compared to the resort prices. Plus from now until the end of ski season you’ll get a free $10 lunch voucher for each day of rental at qualifying resorts.

Research the Rental Car - If you need a rental car, chances are you need one big enough to lug around all of your ski equipment. This probably means you want an SUV or a minivan. Depending on where you are headed for your Valentine’s getaway and the rental agency you use, either one could run as much as $100 less than the other. Sometimes the SUV is a better deal, but sometimes the minivan is a bigger bargain. Research what’s available and don’t just assume one will cost less than the other. Sites like CarRentalExpress.com will help you compare costs at several different companies all at the same time.

Bring Your Own Romance - Buying bottles of wine and ordering room service will add quite a bit onto your bill. Since debt is not sexy, consider bringing your own bottle of wine or champagne for a romantic night in with your Valentine.
