My favorite family Christmas tradition is that on Christmas Eve, somebody takes the kids to look at Christmas lights close to bedtime, and the others stay behind to set up gifts from Santa and eat the cookies & milk the kids left behind for him. That way when the kids return it appears that they just missed Santa and get to open presents without having to wait till the next morning!

Well, on Christmas Eve, our family gathers at the appointed host's house... This year it will be hosted by my wonderful cousins! We usually open our presents from each other then, when we can see the joy on each other's faces as they open their present! We also have a gift exchange, where everyone must bring a gift (nice or not; their choice!) which basically gets "raffled" off to the either lucky or unlucky recipient! Then, of course, we enjoy each other's company while listening to the joyous Christmas music playing in the background... Oh! And then there's the food!! (But, that's a whole other paragraph!!) =D

My fave Christmas tradition is the making goodies for friends and family. This year it was fudge, last year it was jams, year before it was moonpies! My family is Southern, so we show you we love you by feeding you. I enjoy the time I spend making the goodies because I get to think about all the friends and family who will be enjoying them. The gifts are literally 'packed with love'.

My family celebrates Christmas at my grandparents house the weekend before Christmas. Because there are so many of us, and we are spread all over, not everyone is able to come. So, on Saturday afternoon, we all gather around the trusty speaker phone and call who ever was not able to make the trip. this has always been important to us due to multiple family members being in the military and others unable to come due to work... Nothing like 30 people calling you all at once to make your holiday bright :)

When I was growing up, my mom would make us 5 kids eat a big breakfast Christmas morning before opening gifts. It was torture! Now that we are all grown up, we get it. She did it to make the Christmas magic last longer. I have passed on that tradition and guess what? The kids think it is torture. They will get it one day.

My favorite christmas tradition is staying up late with my family on the 24th and eating until we explode. I used to do this with my parents and now I do it with my 4 children. We sing and eat yummy food that only comes around for the holidays. After we exchange hugs and kisses we call the rest of our family and wish them the same. This year will be different for us but I think it goes for many other families. Times are hard and having to care for a home by my self has been hard this year. My husband has been out of the US since the 24 of January. He was the one in charge of paying the car and house payment and I paid the water, electric, and food. This year I have had to stretch myself thin to make it work so this christmas is going to be a little smaller and a little lonier. We hope to see him home soon but it will not be for christmas or new year.

I love hearing the pitter-patter of little feet headed toward the kitchen, hoping that Santa found the cookies baked for him. He always does, and he leaves a few morsels behind because he has so many other houses to get to. My sons listen as I read his note to them encouraging them to be good for the duration of the the year to come, and congratulating them being such good boys throughout last year. The sheer joy they convey as they unwrap their gifts affects me mightily. I don't know how long this tradition will continue, my boys won't always be young, but I do know how long I will remember these mornings; and I am eternally grateful to be part of them.

My Favorite Christmas tradition is going to my father's house for Christmas dinner. My Dad is 75. I am 43. We met each other for the first time 4 years ago. We're slowly building a bond. The Dinners have been awkward for me coming from a small family unit into such a large gathering of unknown relatives. Yet I feel very welcomed into the fold. My favorite family Christmas tradition is all of the family being at my parents' house around 9 am, we all sit around the tree, passing out 1 gift each, before we each open our gift, we all say something we are thankful for and a favorite from a past Christmas, we then all grab a cup of hot cocoa, and a homemade kolache, then head for the kitchen to start prepping and cooking Christmas lunch - everyone helps out. Once everyting is in the oven or frig, we all sit back down to open the rest of our gifts and watch football or a movie, till lunch time. I lost my best friend/uncle on 12/26/2000, and Christmas has not been the same without him, which makes it that much more important for us to all be together on Christmas - and enjoy each others' company - we never know when it will be the last time we share with each other or what the next year will bring, so we hold each other as close as possible these days.

My favorite Christmas family tradition is getting together with my family and going to see a movie Christmas day. My aunt has 8 kids and going to the movies with them is always a challenge! (And sometimes quite embarrassing when one of the little ones start throwing popcorn at strangers.)

My favorite Christmas family tradition is gathering all the kids to make Christmas cookies. We use the same recipe my mom used, and it's funny to see some of the little kids covered in flour. Decorating them can be a hoot, too.

Christmas Eve with all branches of the family gathering for traditional dinner of our ancestry and seeing the once young now older setting the modern world to rest as we all partake in our heritage custom.
Merry Christmas one and all.

My favorite Christmas tradition is having a two day one night Christmas extravaganza complete with a potluck, ukuleles, karaoke, and modern warefare 2.

It's not so much about presents for our family anymore, it's about the time that our families spend together!

My favorite Christmas tradition would have to be what I like to call "the tease". You get one gift on Christmas Eve and it is usually something that goes to something else, but just vague enough to have you awake and wondering all night. My mother has continued this tradition after I moved out by calling me and telling me "I got you batteries" ... "for what?" ... "Wait until you come to visit!"

My favorite Christmas tradition is baking dozens & dozens of Toll House chocolate chip cookies. I always fill identical tins filled with various amounts of cookies and place them in a red "Santa" sack. On Christmas Eve I reach into the sack and pull out a tin (at random) and give everyone a tin. It is so much fun watching them compare tins and squabble over who received the largest amount of cookies.

My Favorite christmas tradition is christmas dinner. It gives me an oppurtunity to sit down and enjoy a meal with my entire family. No one ever sits down together as a family to enjoy a meal, so i relish christmas dinner because this is one day out of the year that I can sit dinner and enjoy everyones company.

My favorite Christmas tradition is watching the youngest child open a special gag gift by my dad which consist of things that he has gathered from the junk drawer, thrift shops, garage sales, etc.

Watching the reaction on their little faces is priceless. This year it backfired. My little niece ignored all her other gifts and played with all the trinkets in her gag bag.

Do you ever watch the traditional Christmas movies? Every year like clockwork I curl up in my favorite chair with some hot chocolate and watch all the movies that were on tv when I was a child... Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph, Nestor the Long Eared Donkey, etc ...It never fails to fill me with memories of past Christmases with my family.

My favorite christmas tradition is delivering our family christmas jar. If you haven't read the book "The Christmas Jar", please don't wait another second. Since being introduced to that story by my grandfather, each year our family saves our spare change in a "christmas jar" and anonymously drops the christmas jar with a copy of the book on the doorstep of a family in need. The story truly defines the meaning of the Christmas spirit.

Our favorite Christmas tradition is finish decorating the tree on Christmas eve, while eating our homemade Christmas cookies. Then we each get to open up 1 christmas gift that evening. The rest is left for Christmas morning, with Sant's presents.
