Seasonal Work: Who's Hiring Over the Holidays

Seasonal work may be hard to come by this year. According to, an online search portal engine for hourly jobs, hiring levels will be 40% below where they were over the holidays just two years ago. On top of that competition is expected to be even tougher— with 54% of managers surveyed anticipating more applications to come in than last year. But sometimes finding a job is about where you look. We found thousands of seasonal openings at a wide variety of businesses. Here are some companies hiring over the holidays. UPS and FedEx - The work load at places like UPS and FedEx increases significantly between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s why they’re looking to hire lots of seasonal help. Join the UPS team as a Seasonal Driver Helper. You don’t need a driver’s license because the driver will pick you up near your home. You can work variable hours between Thanksgiving and Christmas starting at 8AM and running until 8PM. Plus, you’ll get weekends off! If those hours don’t work with your schedule consider a position as a package handler. They’ve got twilight, night and sunrise shifts available. FedEx also has seasonal jobs available. Do an online search to see if there are any opportunities in your area.

Toys 'R' Us - If you can handle droves of kids at Christmastime then consider snagging a seasonal job at Toys 'R' Us. They’re looking to fill thousands of positions all over the country in time for the holidays. Just make sure you stock up on Tylenol and lots of patience.

Seasonal Attractions - Just like theme parks need extra help over the summer, places like ski resorts, skating rinks and other seasonal attractions need extra help right now. Think about the places people flock to in your area during the winter months and find out if they’re looking for seasonal workers.

Target - Think you look good in red? Try applying for one of the hundreds of seasonal jobs available at Target. They’re looking for holiday cashiers and seasonal staffers to handle the extra crowds that the Christmas season will draw in.

Retail Outlets - From Macy’s to Cole Haan, there are lots of department stores and retail outlets looking for seasonal help. Check out this list of more than 23,000 holiday job openings at Refine the search to find listings in your area and you’ll be able to locate lots of great seasonal positions close to your home.

Seasonal Labor - Live in a place that gets lots of snow? Offer to shovel it and you can bring in extra money for the holiday season. There are plenty of people willing to pay others to do this task so take advantage of Mother Nature’s cold spell and put an end to your income’s dry spell.
